My entry for
's "Nature Contest." There should be more to this picture (like at least one wyvern, of many) but the background alone is a huge practice/challenge for me-- to produce clouds, grass, rock texture, and develop my linearting in Photoshop, with no aid at all from vector tools or pattern layers.
The scene itself features one of the secondary races in Midas Stars, the Doramians. Doramians live on very basic principles and are passive, but they have two features that make them stand apart from any other dragon-based species.
- Essentially buddhists by nature, they live in an enlightened state, giving near-zero concern to crafted or woven possessions, spending as much of their time in meditation as physically possible, and they boast immense psychic powers. Their lifespans range 100~1000 years (greater power adds longevity) and, however a two-edged sword, they can resist any pathogen not of their worlds, but only once they know the fine details of the pathogen's process and that it doesn't cripple or kill before it's understood.
- The second great distinguishing feature is that each humanoid "Lower Doramian" is paired with a same-sex, simultaneously born, similarly colored wyvern "Upper Doramian." (One mind, two bodies).
Doramians (there are males, of course), can come in various skin and hair colors. And there are three colors to their skins. There's the pale, soft skin; the dark, scaly hide; and the intermediate, leathery skin that's transitionally colored (50% opacity of scaly skin over the soft skin).Doramian species, Midas Stars
